5 Tips For Being Vegan At A Festival

Being in a new place when you’re vegan can be a bit daunting sometimes, particularly when you’re going to be spending 6 days there and unsure of the food situation. If you’re anything like me, not knowing what food there is and knowing you can get hangry isn’t a good combination. Thankfully we are in a time now where the vegan options have increased significantly over the past couple of years which is amazing to see.

I went to Download Festival last year and I was surprised at the amount of food vendors that were either fully vegan or had vegan options available. Whilst it was nice there were vegan options available, the prices are still £9/£10 per meal. This is alright if you have the budget for paying that price for each meal, however, not so much if your budget is low. In which case it is always a good idea to have some extra options for whilst you’re there.

As festival season is approaching in a few months I thought I would share what I found beneficial as a vegan at a festival. Below are some tips for being vegan at a festival while camping and what you should consider taking with you if you’re stuck for ideas.

What To Take With You To A Festival

1. Take Ready Made Meal Tins

Having some ready made meals in tins is a great idea, especially if it is hot weather and you do not want to be sat around a fire. I took a variety of tins with me including vegan curry, chili and vegan bolognese. These were great because I could just eat them straight out of the tin and it helped to fill me up. Considering how warm it was as in June last year as well it was nice to not need to warm it up.

2. Snacks

Snacks are your best friend, particularly if you like having some whilst having an alcoholic beverage. It’s quite surprising how many snacks are vegan as well. I made sure to take some crisps, sweets and cereal bars to keep me going.

3. Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, while you’re at a festival make sure to start the day right with a cereal bar and a beer. I am partially kidding, make sure to start the day with a vegan croissant and a beer. I took some vegan cereal bars and mini vegan croissants which were ‘La Boulangere’ croissants I purchased from Tesco and they were a bit pricey but worth it. The croissants were a little squashed by the time they got to the festival but still tasted great even then and saved room in my bag. There are quite a few protein filled cereal bars that are vegan available now as well which can sometimes be on offer. I quite enjoy the Graze oat bars, particularly the cherry bakewell ones which were recently on offer. My advice, keep an eye out for the vegan cereal bars if you see any on offer and stock up in advance.

4. Pasta Pots

Taking pots of pasta or noodles is a great idea because these are also super easy to make whilst camping, all it takes is boiling water of course. I found some delicious Wicked Kitchen pasta pots to take which were the Mac N Peas and Spicy Smoky Dreamy Mac which were also surprisingly filling. There are a few Pot Noodle variations that are also vegan as well so grab a few of those for a variety of pasta and noodles. It’s a good idea to take a few of these to have to save the hanger!

Save Money For Tasty Vegan Treats

As I mentioned earlier on, there are plenty of vegan foods available to buy from vendors these days. These are a great idea to go to if you’re feeling like you need something substantial to help with the alcohol consumption or even the day after. They can be a bit pricey so make sure to save up £10 per meal before you get to the festival.

The most important tip out of them all though is to make sure you have fun!
