I have been in desperate need of a second pair of period pants to swap into when washing my pair of Wuka pants. I love wearing period pants rather than sanitary towels as it feels so much more comfortable, I feel less pain when wearing pants and less waste to the landfill of course. This is absolutely no way shaming anyone who does use disposable sanitary products as I know they are the only option for many, however, using period pants is my own preference of period products!
When I was looking around for somewhere that I could purchase another pair from I found it difficult to find a pair that would be in my price range unfortunately. I had remembered hearing about Primark selling period pants a few months ago but at the time I didn’t want to buy anything from Primark as I know it’s not a great company. However, I desperately needed a new pair and Primark might have been in my price range.
I found a selection of period pants to choose from and I was surprised how many there were to be honest. They had singular ones and then packs of three in different colours and patterns. I decided to bite the bullet and go for the medium to heavy flow three pack to give myself that extra freedom when washing the other pairs. I chose these specific patterns because I couldn’t find any in my size in the other patterns unfortunately. The three pack I bought cost £9 which is fairly decent, however, I couldn’t remember the price of the single pair that were available.
First Impressions
At first I thought that these pants would not absorb anything. My Wuka pants have a thick area in line where a sanitary towel would be but these ones from Primark were not thick in this area. They didn’t seem to have much to them making me feel very concerned about what it would be like wearing them. My hopes were not high but I was ready to try.
Trying the period pants out
Wearing the period pants from Primark for the first time felt strange. They felt super comfortable and as if they were not period pants as there was no thick area like there is in my Wuka ones. I felt as though I was constantly watching everything I sat and my clothes on to see if they had leaked through. The medium to heavy flow packs state that they hold up to the equivalent of 4 tampons, but I decided to change my first pair after 4 hours as a ‘just in case’ precaution. This was right on the heaviest part of my period at the start so I wasn’t sure how long the pants would last for.
Throughout the week I swapped the period pants less often as my period got lighter and started to feel more confident with the Primark period pants. I ended up wearing one pair for approximately eight hours and there was no leakage, but this was later on in my period and not right at the start.
The only concern I had was with the pink period pants as I thought I had leaked due to seeing blood on the edges. It turns out this is only because it is a lighter colour but I hadn’t actually leaked.
Washing the period pants was super easy also. All you need to do is rinse them out first then place in a wash at 30 degrees and hang on a radiator or line to dry.
Thoughts
Considering I thought these period pants wouldn’t hold much they have actually done a surprisingly good job. The price was relatively reasonable for what they could do and is equivalent to about four maybe five months worth of buying sanitary towels (from my own experience). I liked the different looks of the period pants, although not particularly so much the pink ones as that did show blood sometimes and made me think I had leaked. However, I did like the look of the pink ones on me so swings and roundabouts.
I will say that during the heavier times during my period I have had to change them several times throughout the day, as I would with a sanitary towel. However, has to be said the same for my pair of Wuka period pants also during the heavier times throughout my period.
I would recommend trying out a pair of these period pants from Primark if period pants from places such as Wuka or Modi Bodi are out of your price range. Especially if you want to try out period pants for the first time and not have to worry about wasted money if it’s something you end up hating. It is recommended that you do try these out whilst at home for the first time to see what it’s like and how long before each change which I completely agree with.
