The other Christmas was the first time I’d really heard of a charcuterie board and I got really intrigued as they looked perfect for a get together around Christmas. I started to think how I could make a vegan version that would taste nice. Thankfully around that time of year several shops do a variety of vegan cheese, shout out to Ocado, M&S and Asda for their previous vegan cheese selections and more!

Putting the charcuterie board together was a fun and easy experience, most importantly it tasted amazing all together. I’ve made a list of all the foods I used below to create a tasty charcuterie board.

What will you need?

Vegan cheese

A variety of vegan cheese for the board is essential. You can choose to individually select your vegan cheeses from a variety of brands such as Honeslty Tasty, Violife, Sheese and store branded vegan cheeses. Alternatively you can opt to use a vegan cheese selection that some stores, such as Marks and Spencers have put together last year as a Christmas special. Last year I found there were a variety of different Christmas vegan cheese selections available. However, this is not all year round so if you are making the cheese board any other time of the year it would be better to search for individual selections of cheese.

Crackers

Cheese and crackers are the perfect combination. I personally prefer round cracker’s compared to square ones these days, so I went for the Tesco’s Salt & Pepper crackers and the Tesco’s Sea Salt crackers.

Fruit

Adding fruit to your charchuterie board will add the pop of colour that’s missing from the beige crackers and vegan cheese. Not only will it look fantastic, it will also taste fantastic. The combination of fruit and cheese is incredible. Try adding strawberries and grapes to the board for the perfect combination.

Breadsticks

Breadsticks make an extra little yummy snack on the side, particularly for those who are looking for a nibble off the board. These Marks and Spencer’s cheese flavour twists were

Vegan Meat

I used the squeaky bean pastrami for this bit and rolled into little roses for aestethic.

Spreads/ dips

Adding a dip or spread to your charcuterie board will be perfect for your crackers and breadsticks. I used an old ceramic pot from a vegan cheese melt to put some vegan spread in so this could be added to the crackers when needed. I also added hummus to the mix which comes in a variety of different flavours so plenty to choose from!

Olives

Olives are very similar to the marmite situation, you either love them or you hate them. I definitely can see why they are an accquired taste as I was a little thrown back when I first tried some. However, I found some from Ocado that were stuffed with jalepenos (I love anything spicy) and I really enjoyed these. They definitely complimented the board and had a nice kick.

I’m already looking forward to trying to do one of these again this year!
