Spring is approaching and hopefully some warmer weather too, the perfect time of year for a picnic. Just as it’s starting to get a little bit warmer but not ridiculously warm makes it good weather for a picnic.

What do you need for a vegan picnic?

You can have a variety of different foods to make your picnic perfect such as sandwiches, pastries and a selection of snacks. Below I’ve listed options to choose from if you’re struggling for ideas on what to pick.

Sandwiches

With sandwiches you can either make your own or buy a ready made one from the shops. With ready made ones they can be a bit hit and miss depending on what you choose, this one I had from Boots below was horrendous but it was the only option at the time (4 years ago!).

What is your favourite sandwich? My current favourite ready available sandwich is the Plant Chef All Day Breakfast from Tesco as I really love the tofu egg substitute.

Pastries

You could have a variety of different pastries if that is what you like to eat. There are quite a few vegan options about these days as well so plenty to choose from. Things like vegan sausage rolls, savoury pies and vegan quiche.

Asda is a great place to get savoury snacks for a picnic as they have a huge variety in their vegan range, for example:

  • Savoury eggs
  • Sweet potato falafels
  • Vegan sausage rolls
  • Cous cous
  • Olives

Sweets

There are a variety of sweets that are now vegan friendly you’ll find at least one option anywhere! See just a few examples listed below:

  • Skittles
  • Jelly Tots
  • Fruit Pastels
  • Love Hearts
  • Candy Kittens
  • Starburst

Biscuits

  • Jammy Dodgers
  • Oreos
  • Bourbons
  • Biscoff
  • Party Rings
  • Ginger Nuts
  • Oaties
  • Digestives
  • Fruit Shortcake
  • Rich Tea
  • Dark Chocolate Digestives

Crisps

There are many crisps out there that are surprisingly vegan. For example, Tesco’s Finest Cheese & Onion crisps are vegan which I loved finding out for the first time! Then you get the salt and vinegar ones from various brands which have milk in, like why??

I love Kettle chips and some of my favourite are the vegan sheese & red onion along with the salt and balsamic vinegar they are top tier in my opinion. There are so many other vegan crisps for example:

  • Ready salted Pringles
  • Most walkers
  • Kettle chips (most flavours, just check the packaging)
  • Tescos finest as mentioned above
  • Bacon rashers (I know, strange but most brands have the vegan version!)

Fruit

Fruit is a must on a picnic, particularly strawberries and grapes. I feel like any other fruit on a picnic just doesn’t work but correct me if I’m wrong.

Dont forget to take some food for the little creatures too!

What would you take on a picnic? Let me know!
